Giving a gift of love

Updated: Apr 4, 2024

Today is a special day for me and my mother, as it marks what would have been my late brother's 34th birthday. Although he's no longer with us, we imagine he's celebrating in heaven, where he never ages.

It's an emotional day for us because we used to exchange birthday presents, often with simple birthday cards. However, we've realised that love is the greatest gift we can give. A gift need not be expensive or wrapped. Rather, it can be an action that shows you care and are there for someone without expecting anything in return.

For example, my brother used to donate school materials to orphaned children, treat them to parties, share his umbrella with strangers, offer rides to those in need, and even give away his shoes to those who needed them most. He was courageous, kind, and always willing to help those in need.

Even though we can no longer physically give my brother a gift, we can pray for his soul. This year, we decided to make his birthday memorable by showing love to a friend in need. We helped mow her garden grass, a small gesture that brought her happiness and surprise.

There are countless opportunities to give the gift of love while we're still alive. This is how we can make a difference in the world.
