I recently watched the live-action TV show "One Piece" on Netflix. It's an action-packed adventure about pirates and a story about pursuing one's dreams and what it takes to make them a reality. The show explores the theme of ambition and what people are willing to do to achieve their goals.
The protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, has a great dream of acquiring the One Piece treasure and becoming the King of Pirates. Despite facing obstacles from family, friends, and strangers, he never gives up and stays committed to the path that will bring him closer to achieving his greatest dream.
Some of us may have already accomplished our greatest dreams in life. However, some of us have died in pursuit of those dreams, and others have given up on them altogether. Meanwhile, many of us have yet to discover what our greatest dream is.
Have you ever taken a moment to ponder about what your biggest aspiration is? I am still figuring that out for myself, and it can be quite daunting. Although there are some life goals I've already accomplished, I consider them to be necessities.
To determine my ultimate dream, I might begin by defining what constitutes a "greatest dream." By simply observing the world around me, I've come to realise that the greatest dream is something that is achieved and has a lasting impact on both oneself and others.
So, I have looked at some people and their greatest dreams.
Mother Theresa had a great dream of helping the poorest of the poor. She was deeply concerned about the poverty that surrounded her. She resigned from her teaching job and devoted the rest of her life to serving the poorest people in society. She started a foundation to help the homeless, hungry, and sick. Her journey to help the poor was difficult, as she had no income and had to beg for food and supplies. Despite facing hardships, she never gave up and remained resilient. Her efforts quickly caught the world's attention and began attracting recruits and donations.
Tahera Rahma has a strong passion for pursuing a career as a news reporter on live television. Despite facing challenges arising from her Muslim faith and wearing a hijab, she persevered in pursuing this dream. While she met several rejection letters in her application process, she remained undeterred in her determination. Eventually, her hard work paid off as she was accepted and made history by becoming the first television reporter in the USA to wear a hijab while broadcasting live on national television, earning widespread praise and recognition.
Andres Bonifacio, the father of the Katipuneros, had a great dream of freeing his country from Spanish conquerors. The Philippines of today enjoys independence thanks to the efforts of their national heroes, such as Andres Bonifacio. He founded a secret revolutionary society and fought against the conquerors until his death.
I want to share with you something very personal. My late brother's greatest dream was for our family to have a place we could call our home. Growing up, we moved from one house to another. We first lived in our Aunt's house in Labangon, Cebu City, but we never felt welcome there, so we moved to a rental place in the same area. We then lived in my grandpa's house in Agusan del Norte, and although our grandparents loved us, we had to leave to avoid conflicts with my mother's siblings. We returned to Cebu City and moved to four different rental places in Banawa, two rental places in Talisay, one rental place in Guadalupe and two places in Lapu-Lapu City. In total, we lived in and moved to 12 different houses. We were like nomads, never having a permanent home. Although we used to joke about it, my brother took it very seriously. He worked hard and saved his money to buy a house for the three of us to live in and call home forever.
Many people achieve their greatest dreams together. Bonifacio's revolution was a product of the Katipuneros' collective action. Mother Theresa was able to expand her mission outside India through the help of her congregation and recruits.
Having the greatest dream in life can provide a sense of purpose and meaning, which is why I believe it is important to have one. I find myself inspired by ordinary individuals who have made significant impacts on others with their dreams, possessing qualities such as courage, diligence, resilience, patience, and discipline. To be motivated by such people, I need to take the initiative to find my greatest dream in life and take action towards it. So, let's discover what our greatest dream is.
